South Korean label YG Entertainment announced that all the four members of its girl group BLACKPINK will be having their official solo debuts!
On October 18, a news outlet reported that BLACKPINK’s main rapper, Jennie Kim will be having her solo debut and has now been filming her music video in Europe. Her official debut as a soloist may take place sometime in November.
According to Sports Donga, YG Entertainment is working on finalizing the schedule for her solo debut, however, the Korean label has not yet released their own statement on Jennie’s solo debut.
However, fans of the quartet group have split opinions on the reports claiming Jennie’s solo debut. Some fans are ecstatic on the news, while some find the solo debut ‘too early’ and suggested that YG should first prioritize the group’s full comeback album and future projects first.
On the same day, YG Ent’s Yang Hyun Suk ended all controversy and revealed that they are “simultaneously working on new BLACKPINK songs as well as solo projects for all 4 members at the moment. Jennie is the first member to make her solo debut.”
In an Instagram post, he also revealed that Jennie’s solo debut will be followed by BLACKPINK’s main vocalist, Rosé’s solo.
“The biggest strength of BLACKPINK is that each member’s ability/talent as a solo artist is as strong as their teamwork/cohesiveness,” he said.
BLACKPINK will be holding their first Korean concert on November 10 and 11 at Olympic Gymnastics Arena for their “In Your Area” tour.
