Three-time Olympian Hidilyn Diaz won a silver and bronze medal in the 2017 International Weightlifting Federation World Championships in Anaheim, California.
Diaz got a silver after lifting 113 kilograms in the clean and jerk porting of women’s 53 kg weight divison, and bronze after lifting a total of 199 kg in her weight category.
The gold medal was taken by Sopita Tanasan of Thailand who lifted a total of 210 kilograms, while Kristina Shermetova of Turkmenistan lifted 204 kilograms in order to place second.
Diaz became famous after winning the silver medal of the women’s 53kg weightlifting category in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, the first medal of the Philippines in the Olympics after 20 years.
The Filipina weightlifter has also recently won a silver medal in the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Art Games in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan last September.
Diaz now seeks to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and represent the country for the fourth time.
