The Philippine National Police (PNP) prohibits the public from attending wakes due to the enhanced community quarantine being enforced across Luzon to prevent the spread of the 2019 Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).

PNP spokesperson BGen. Bernard Banac explained that wakes are considered mass gatherings, which are prohibited during the enhanced community quarantine.

Wala pong mangyayaring lamay, mahigpit pong ipinagbabawal ngayon sa ilalim ng ating Enhanced Community Quarantine ang pagkakaroon po ng lamay,” Banac said during the Laging Handa press briefing.

The PNP official said that only the officiating priest, pastor, or minister will be allowed to attend the funeral aside from the family.
