US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter is set to arrive to the Philippines tonight, as he attends the on-going PHL-US Balikatan Joint Military Exercises 2016.
In an advisory at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, it was not mentioned what time Carter’s exact arrival due to issue on security.
Carter is the second US Defense Secretary to visit the Philippines, after Secretary Chuck Hagel in 2013.
With Carter’s visit to the Philippines, the relationship between the countries will strengthen, especially in guarding the country’s territories at the West Philippine Sea.
Prior to this, Carter cancelled his scheduled visit to China. Instead of going to Beijing, the US official went straight to India.
