The University of the Philippines is looking into putting up an extension of the Philippine General Hospital in Diliman, Quezon City.
During the Senate budget hearing for UP, UP President Atty. Danilo Concepcion said that they plan to build the public hospital extension in Diliman because the area at the UP campus in Taft Avenue, Manila is already congested.
The PGH extension can accommodate up to 700 patients. Their asking budget is Php9 million.
Aside from being a hospital, it will also hold a college of Medicine and Cancer Research Center.
According to Concepcion, this is in preparation just in case the country is hit again by another pandemic and also to accommodate more students who are interested in taking up Medicine.
Sen. Cynthia Villar meanwhile recommended building the hospital in UP Los Banos instead because Southern Luzon needs a government hospital.
Concepcion’s reply was that they’re also looking at the possibility of putting PGH extensions in Laguna and Mindanao.
