Philippines’ Ceres Negros remains undefeated in the 2019 AFC Cup after keeping Myanmar’s Shan United winless, 5-0, on Thursday, May 1, at the Thuwunna Youth Training Centre Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar.
With an assist from Bosnian forward Mahir Karic, Spanish winger Bienvenido Marañon scored a goal in the 38th minute. The ball hit the flagpost before entering the goal.
Marañon scored another goal thru a penalty kick in the 43rd minute, which gave a two-point lead for the Philippine side before the start of the second half of the game.
The Spanish football star completed his hattrick in the 71st minute with an assist from Ceres captain Martin Steuble.
A header from Filipino defender Carli De Murga in the 80th minute brought the lead of the Philippine squad to four. Five minutes later, Filipino midfielder Oj Porteria carried the ball pass the defenders of the Myanmar team to score another goal for the visitors.
The victory assured Ceres Negros, which has won all their five games, that they will top Group G of the 2019 AFC Cup and advance to the zonal semifinals of the football tournament.
The Philippine squad will attempt to sweep the group stage when they face Vietnam’s Becamex Bình Dương on May 15 at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod.
