Senator JV Ejercito and Sen. Grace Poe on Thursday expressed their dismay over the sudden resignation of Transportation Undersecretary Cesar Chavez.
According to Ejercito, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) lost a “passionate” and hard-working official. He added that the Metro Rail Transit – 3 (MRT-3) may revert back to “zero” following Chavez’ resignation.
Ejercito stressed that whoever replaces Chavez will need time to be acquainted and to know the problems faced by the Transit.
Meanwhile, Sen. Poe, head of the Senate committee on public service, expressed her doubt that Chavez simply resigned out of “delicadeza”.
According to Poe, it was Chavez who dared exposed the persons behind the anomalies of the MRT. She added that it was also Usec. Chavez who continuously served as the media resource person who spoke whenever the Transit experienced glitches, interruptions, and accidents.
Poe added that President Rodrigo Duterte should appoint a rail or technology expert to ensure the safety and convenience of the riding public.
Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade in a statement denied urging Usec. Chavez to tender his resignation and claimed he too was shocked by the Undersecretary’s announcement.
Tugade assured that despite recent setbacks, he still has the utmost trust and confidence in Usec. Chavez.
According to Bayan Muna rep. Carlos Zarate, the MRT – 3 may face an even greater number of irregularities and breakdowns following the exit of Chavez.
Malacañang has yet to comment on the matter.
