President Rodrigo Duterte and Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Monday, July 30 challenged the Office of the President, particularly President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, to lead government agencies’ officials and personnel to participate in a drug test.

Senate President Vicente Sotto III on Monday surprised all Senate employees and staff when he announced a surprise random mandatory drug test. Sotto addressed that the drug test is his commitment to a drug-free environment and workplace, and pursuant to our revised policy and guidelines.

After taking on the drug test, Trillanes issued a statement saying, “Ang sa akin, ang panawagan ko dapat Office of the President ang una, dapat si Duterte mismo para malaman ng taumbayan kung ‘yung mismong namumuno ng war on drugs ay hindi impluwensiyado ng illegal na droga.”

He also added that the First Family — Paulo, Sara, and Sebastian Duterte should voluntarily take on the drug test to prove the public that they also follow the orders of their father. Trillanes noted that he voluntarily participated in the said drug test by the Senate to assure the public that the government officials and servants are not under the influence of any illegal drugs.

Aside from Trillanes, Senate President Vicente Sotto III, Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri, Senators Gregorio Honasan II, Paolo Benigno Aquino IV, and Loren Legarda also underwent drug test.
