The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) on Wednesday expressed gratitude to President Benigno S. Aquino III, congressmen and senators for passing the approval of the P3.002-trillion proposed National Budget which includes the education budget.
ACT and other teachers group were very happy that the biggest chunk of the budget will be allocated for the Department of Education (DepEd) which is whooping P436.5 billion.
Included in the P436.5 billion of DepEd is the salary increase for public elementary and secondary school teachers and non-teaching personnel nationwide.
DBM said the entry pay of Teacher 1 level will be PhP 29,800 monthly and PhP 16, 000 for the non-teaching personnel.
Presently, a Teacher 1 gets Php 18,549 while a non-teaching personnel (entry level) gets about Php 10,000. A Master Teacher 1 has a Php 35,000 monthly salary.
ACT is planning to hold a rally during President Aquino’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 17 to ensure the enactment of the law for the public school teachers’ salary increase in 2016. (Joel C. Atencio)
