Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology refuted rumors that mining operations in the province of Surigao Del Norte caused the strong earthquake that hit the said area last Friday.
However, Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum warned that mining areas are more in danger of earthquakes.
Meanwhile, aftershocks continue to hit Surigao City.
4:03 this morning, the city was hit by a 4.9 Magnitude Earthquake.
According to Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum, It is normal for Surigao to be showered by aftershocks after a strong earthquake. Solidum also warned though that the city will be hit by aftershocks for a long time.
