Senate Majority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III took his oath as the new Senate President on Monday, May 21.
The decision came after former Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel stepped down from the post and voted in favor of reorganizing the leadership of the Senate with a total of 15 votes, including himself. Sotto will serve as the second Senate President of the 17th Congress.
In a statement released by Pimentel himself, he wishes Sotto to do well in his new position.
“I wish my successor, Senator Sotto, good health and Godspeed, and pledge to help the new leadership pass pro-people legislation consistent with the legislative agenda of the President”, said the President of PDP Laban.
On the other hand, replacing Sotto as the senate majority leader is Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, who held the same post before resigning in 2011.
