WBO International Featherweight Champion Marvelous Marvin Sonsona can’t wait to go back to the ring and fight World number 2 and former champion Akifumi Shimoda of Japan.
In fact, Sonsona will only have a week’s worth of rest in General Santos City before he goes back to Metro Manila and train for his next fight in May.
According to Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, Sonsona needs to be impressive with his two tune-up fights in order for him to be given a world title bout.
Two of the world title belts are being owned by Mexicans’ Orlando Salido (WBO) and Johnny Gonzales (WBC).
Evgeny Gradovich of Russia holds the IBF division while Simphiwe Vetyeka of South Africa is the king of the WBA. Simphiwe will be going against the Philippines’ very own Nonito Donaire in May.
Sonsona used to be an alcoholic and was into womanizing just like former boxer Rolando Navarette, but after hitting rock bottom, Sonsona realized that he needed to be serious in life and focused on Boxing once again.
