Lawmakers support President Rodrigo Duterte’s decision to prohibit officials of the Executive branch from frequently travelling abroad.
Magdalo partylist Rep. Gary Alejano even proposed that the ban should not only be limited to the Executive branch but should also cover the Legislative and Judiciary branches of government as well.
The congressman, however, said that government officials are still allowed to travel as long as it is not during work days and will not use government funds.
According to Isabela Rep. Rodito Albano, the President is only forwarding good governance.
Based on the directive of Duterte, the travel ban will be effective starting January 1, 2018 and will cover all officials of the Executive Branch, including the vice president and members of the Presidential Cabinet.
Some government officials have already been dismissed due to their frequent travels abroad.
