A senior police officer was arrested by operatives of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Counter-Intelligence Task Force (CITF) on Friday on alleged extortion with fishermen in Tanza, Cavite.
The suspect, identified as Supt. Armandy Dimabuyo, chief of the 402nd Cavite Maritime Police Station in Barangay Julugan 5. Dimabuyo was arrested during the entrapment inside an office of his unit.
According to CITF commander Senior Supt. Romeo Caramat Jr.,the entrapment stemmed after receiving from complaints from several owners of motorized bancas saying that the suspect was demanding as much as Php 21,000 in cash per month from an association of fishermen in the area.
During the entrapment, Dimabuyo was caught in the act of receiving the Php 18,000 marked cash from one of the complainants. He is set to face a case of robbery-extortion and an administrative complaint
Meanwhile, PNP Maritime Group Director Chief Supt. Rodelio Jocson also sacked all personnel of the Cavite Maritime Section. They will be replaced by personnel from the Special Operations Unit of the Maritime Group.
