Senators warned Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr. that his problems do not end with the rejection of the Commission on Appointments on his confirmation.
According to Senator Panfilo Lacson, Chairman of the CA Committee on Foreign Affairs, while they cannot judge Yasay for his questionable citizenship, cases could still be filed against him.
Sen. Lacson explained further that any taxpayer can file a case, like Perjury, against Yasay.
Sen. Franklin Drilon also said that, other than perjury, Yasay can also be charged with Usurpation of Function.
Earlier today, 15 members of the CA Committee on Foreign Affairs unanimously decided to reject the appointment of Yasay.
Once a nomination of a Cabinet Member is rejected by the CA, he/she can no longer be reappointed by the President or any appointing authority.
The CA junked the nomination of Yasay after he withdrew his previous statements regarding his citizenship. The Foreign Affairs Sec, previously, denied claims that he is a US citizen, and that he has a US Passport. He would later admit that these allegations are true.
