Two senators urge netizens to stop ‘bullying’ the Ateneo De Manila University Junior Highschool student seen in a viral video hitting and humiliating his fellow students.
In his Twitter account, Sen. Francis ‘Kiko’ Pangilinan questioned what made the public different from the viral student if they are also bullying him in social media platform Facebook.
“Galit tayo sa isang bully at dapat lang pero sa galit natin ‘binubully’ naman natin siya sa Facebook? So kung ganun ano ang pinagkaiba natin sa kanya?” Pangilinan said in his post.
“We should never, never become the monster we seek to defeat,” the senator added.
Meanwhile, Sen. Nancy Binay stressed that bullying a bully will not better the situation and instead worsen the culture of hate.
She also said that, as a parent, she agrees that a strong message to be sent expressing that bullying is unacceptable and must not be condoned.
Furthermore, Binay expressed sadness that social media has become infected with hatred and a developed into a place of torment rather than an instrument of healing.
“We must condemn all forms of bullying. But what’s bothersome, though, is the vicious cycle of bullying. Bullying does not end by bullying the bully,” Binay said
“Bullying will continue to grow if we behave like bullies,” Binay added.
