The Senate wants to make sure that the proposed 2018 national budget will be pork free.

As usual, Senator Panfilo Lacson will head the review on the 2018 proposed national budget, whether or not there are some proposals that can be considered as “pork.”

Lacson added that if there is a hint of “pork” in the said proposal, he will make sure that this will be transferred to the budget for free tuition to state universities and colleges.

President Rodrigo Duterte already signed the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education, providing full government subsidy on tuition for SUCs.

According to Senator Francis Escudero, chairman of the Senate Committee on Education, Php14 billion will be allocated to SUCs, and Php1 billion for local universities and colleges.

The TVIS or Technical Vocational Institutions under TESDA will be needing Php5 billion for their budget.
