Both the Senate and the House of Representatives approved their versions of the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) in the third and final reading.
In the Senate, all 21 senators that were present voted for the passage of the bill on the morning of May 31.
Sen. Manny Pacquiao, who is training at General Santos City, and Sen. Leila De Lima, who is detained in the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center in Camp Crame, were the only senators that did not vote for the said measure.
While on the evening of May 30, the Lower House of Congress passed the BBL proposal that received 226 favorable votes, and 11 opposing votes.
Two representatives abstained from voting.
Under the BBL, the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) will be replaced with the Autonomous Region of the Bangsamoro (ARB).
Meanwhile, members of the two Houses will hold a bicameral conference while thCongress is on break in order to resolve differences in their versions.
Congress hopes that President Rodrigo Duterte will ratify the said bill before his third State of the Nation Address on July 23.
