Some officials of the Philippine National Police and self-confessed Davao Death Squad member Edgar Matobato will be hauled up in the recommendation that the Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights will release in connection with the alleged extra-judicial killings in the country.
According to Senator Richard Gordon, chairman of the said committee, the PNP has responsibility in the increasing number of EJK cases.
Gordon said that it is the PNP’s failure to resolve these incidents which cause the increase of EJK cases.
The committee will also recommend the filing of criminal and perjury charges against Matobato.
The Senator admits that there is no direct evidence linking President Rodrigo Duterte to the Davao Death Squad when he was still the mayor of Davao.
Gordon clarified that the committee will not meddle with the alleged inclusion of Senator Leila De Lima’s name in the issue of illegal drug trade inside the National Bilibid Prison, therefore it will not appear in their recommendation.
Gordon is expected to submit his committee report within the week.
