The subcommittee of the Senate blue ribbon committee on Wednesday junked the jurisdictional challenges posed by Makati Mayor Junjun Binay and other individuals “due to lack of merit.”

The jurisdictional challenges were in connection with the panel’s investigation of the alleged overpricing of the Makati car park building.

Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, chairman of the subcommittee ruled on the issue as soon as the committee resumed the hearing on Wednesday morning.

Pimentel stressed that the jurisdictional challenges by Binay “are all denied for lack of merits.”

The senator also reiterated that the panel has the jurisdiction to to conduct inquiries in aid of legislation.

Under the rules, only a member of the committee may question its own jurisdiction to investigate on certain issues.

Earlier, Pimentel also junked the same petition submitted by Binay.
