Sen. Panfilo Lacson expects the bicameral hearing for the 2019 proposed national budget to be ‘bloody’.
Lacson predicts that members of the House of Representatives oppose the decision of the Senate to reduce the budgets for the Department of Public Works and Highways, and the Department of Interior and Local Government.
Senators chose to lower the budget of the two agencies after discovering anomalous insertions in the proposed 2019 General Appropriations Act.
Lacson promised that the Senate will ensure that, aside from the Php 75 billion deducted from the funds of the DPWH, the savings of the agency will be used for government projects.
Lawmakers have previously said that the deducted funds can be used for the implementation of the Universal Health Care package, and the Build, Build, Build programs of the government.
The bicameral conference is expected to start meeting next week to review the proposed 2019 national budget.
