The Sandiganbayan favored the appeal of former First Gentleman Atty. Jose Miguel ‘Mike’ Arroyo to travel to Japan and Hong Kong this April.
The Anti-Graft Court Seventh Division allowed Arroyo to leave the Philippines from April 21 up to 27.
In his motion, the former first gentleman said that he will be staying in Tokyo, Japan for five days while he will be in Hong Kong for two days.
Arroyo didn’t reveal the reason for his week-long travel abroad.
The court had previously allowed Arroyo to travel abroad since the former first gentleman has no reason to abandon the Philippines due to his family and businesses in the country.
As a condition for permitting his travel abroad, Arroyo needs to appear before the Division Clerk of Court within five days after his scheduled return to the Philippines.
The former First Gentleman had also previously paid the Php 90,000 travel bond due to his previous travels.
Arroyo is currently facing graft charges for the alleged anomalies in the Arroyo administration’s procurement of two helicopters in 2009.
The government allegedly acquired two already used helicopters for the price of brand new ones.
