The NLEX Road Warriors will miss the services of JP Erram and Paul Varilla in their rematch against NorthPort Batang Pier on Wednesday, Nov. 27, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City.
The said game will decide which of the two teams will advance to the semifinals of the 2019 PBA Governor’s Cup.
The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) decided to suspend Erram and Varilla for one game due to their involvement in the in-game scuffle during the Road Warriors – Batang Pier game on Monday, Nov. 25, at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Aside from a one-game suspension, the PBA Commissioner’s Office also imposed a Php 40,000 fine to Varilla and a Php 50,000 fine to Erram.
Erram and Varilla hit Batang Pier import Michael Qualls after the American basketball player stepped on the stomach of Varilla in the middle of the fourth quarter of the game, which ended with a 115-90 victory for Northport.
The two NLEX players were slapped with a flagrant foul penalty two, and were ejected from the game.
“The league will never tolerate fighting, there is absolutely no room for such in sports and in the PBA,” a statement from the PBA Commissioner’s office read.
Meanwhile, the PBA also slapped a Php 5,000 fine to Philip Paniamogan of the Road Warriors and Php 1,000 fine to Kiefer Ravena of the Road Warriors for hitting Christian Standhardinger of Batang Pier.
The league also imposed a Php 5,000 fine to Standhardinger for hitting Ravena.
