Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre confirmed that a riot ensued inside the New Bilibid Prisons early Wednesday morning.
High-profile inmates’ Jaybee Sebastian, Tony Coy, Peter Co and Vicente Sy were rushed to the Medical Center in Muntilupa after sustaining multiple injuries.
However, Tony Co has passed away a few minutes later.
In an interview of DZRH with acting Bureau of Corrections Chief Rolando Asuncion, the riot stemmed after Clarence Dongail saw the four inmates, Sebastian, Peter, Tony and Vicente, smoking pot inside building 14.
Dongail then approached them and based on reports, told on them to stop because what they were doing is considered as illegal inside the NBP.
Tension then ensued between the groups of Sebastian and Dongail.
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre said that they need to keep Sebastian alive because his role is vital in finding out the truth behind the alleged massive illegal drug trade inside the NBP.
Sebastian is being pinpointed as Senator Leila De Lima’s “main man” inside the NBP. According to the statement of fellow inmates, Herbert Colangco and Noel Martinez, who both testified in the recent Congress’ hearing on the alleged illegal drugs activities inside the NBP, Sebastian forced them to give Php3 Million “payola” monthly to fund De Lima’s Senatorial run in the last national elections.
