NLEX Road Warriors star Enrico Villanueva will be resigning from his career at the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
The seven-time All-Star athlete confirmed his withdrawal following the 89-77 defeat of NLEX to Star Hotshots during the PBA Governors Cup quarterfinals at the Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday.
Villanueva also took into consideration his recurring knee injury which left him mostly benched during the Road Warriors’ game throughout the Philippine Cup.
The 37-year-old star also played for the Global Port Batang Pier, Barangay Ginebra, and San Miguel Beermen.
Villanueva also drew a lot of attention after receiving the Finals Most Valuable Player, Best Player of the Conference Award, and Most Improved Player Award. Villanueva was also included in the PBA’s Mythical First Team and the All Defensive Team.
Meanwhile, NLEX Coach Yeng Guiao extended his wishes for Villanueva to still be involved in the profession of sports even if he is no longer a basketball player.
