Incumbent mayor Joseph ‘Erap’ Estrada on Tuesday, May 14 clarified that he is not conceding defeat on Manila’s mayoral post even after his former Vice Mayor Isko Moreno clearly leads the poll results.

In a video circulating online, Erap can be seen delivering his message in front of his supporters.

“We’ve done our best, I did my best…we have to accept. There is the saying that the voice of the people is the voice of God,” Estrada said in the video. He then proceeded on congratulating whoever will be elected as mayor and asked to continue all his projects for the benefit of the Manileños.

However, during an interview on Tuesday — a day after the initial results came out, the 71-year-old said that he is not conceding defeat on the mayoral post.

“Bakit ako magko-concede? Talagang prinoject ako. Lahat ng survey from the start panalo ako. Tapos ngayon biglang si Isko nanalo,” Estrada said.

Estrada claims that the results are ‘unbelievable’ since he has always been topping the mayoral surveys in Manila. He also pointed out that the number of votes on his own barangay were unreasonable.

Isko Moreno leads the mayoral race in Manila after garnering total votes of 354,327, while Estrada garnered 208,561 votes as of Tuesday, 2:17 PM.
