The Philippine Superliga (PSL) moved its beach volleyball tournament from November 2020 to February 2021.
The league decided to postpone the PSL Invitational Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup after taking into account several weather disturbances occurring in rapid and disastrous succession, the safety of all athletes exposed to outdoor conditions, and the effectivity of frontliners assigned for the tournament.
PSL expected that Central Luzon, which includes the SBMA (Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority) industrial zone, will sustain heavy damage from Super Typhoon Rolly, and Severe Tropical Storm Siony.
PSL planned to hold the beach volleyball tournament in Subic Bay.
“The PSL will therefore step out of the way for the common good: so these agencies can give their full attention to the public emergency. The PSL will however find ways to support the work to be done,” the league said in a statement.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque previously announced that Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease allowed PSL to hold its beach volleyball tournament.
