Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman William ‘Butch’ Ramirez thanked President Rodrigo Duterte for backing the creation of a National Academy for Sports.
The President showed his support for the establishment of a sports academy for high-school students during his fourth State of the Nation Address on Monday, July 24, at the Batasan Pambansa in Quezon City.
“There might be bigger priorities but President Duterte has always given sports his support,” said Ramirez.
Ramirez believes that this development will not only help the Philippines in identifying talent but will also elevate the sporting knowledge of every Filipino, and hopefully provide the country ‘with a deeper pool of talent for the elite’.
Last February, President Duterte signed Republic Act 11214, also known as the Philippine Sports Training Center Act, for the construction of a state of the art and highly scientific sports complex, which will rise in Rosa
The sports complex, that will be known as the Philippine Sports Training Center, will feature numerous facilities for administrative, sports science, medical and dormitories for athletes and coaches; with sports amenities for 39 Olympic and non-Olympic sports.
The facility is expeted to be completd in Rosales, Pampanga by 2022.
