President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on Tuesday held a dinner at the Malacañang Palace especially for former members of the New People’s Army (NPA).
Addressing the rebel returnees, Duterte said that the battle between the government side and the communist group that has been going on for years now, have brought nothing but pain and misery.
Duterte also noted that the communist group’s demand for a coalition government is not acceptable given that one can and must only assume power through an election.
During their meeting the Chief Executive also promised the former rebels financial assistance, education, training, and as well as integration to the Armed Forces.
He also pledged to bring female rebel returnees to Hong Kong for them to see the achievements of capitalist societies, contrary to the promises of the NPA.
As the government pushes forth with its massive infrastructure program, the President explained that there is an abundant need for more skilled workers. Also, the President extended his advise to the former NPA members to acquire training and new skills to take active participation in the workforce.
The dinner at the Malacañang Palace was composed of the third batch of rebel returnees which included 187 former NPA’s.
