President Rodrigo Duterte welcomed the world leaders attending the 31st Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit during a plenary at the Philippine International Convention Center.
According to Duterte, their meetings in the next two days are important so that leaders of different countries can continue their discussions from the previous ASEAN Summit that happened last April.
The President also gave an idea on what will be discussed during the meetings before leaving. Their discussions will include consolidating and resolving the aspirations of every ASEAN leader for their own country by 2025.
“We engage in productive and fruitful discussions in our continuing work to strengthen the Asian community towards the realization of the Asian vision of 2025.” Duterte said. “Today, we continue our discussion in how to further consolidate our efforts and our shared aspirations toward an ASEAN community that is truly rules-based, people-oriented, and people-centered.”
