President Rodrigo Duterte was a no-show during Friday’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) gala dinner in Da Nang, Vietnam.
Instead, representing the President was Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano accompanied by his wife, Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano.
In a Facebook post, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque explained that the President was not able to attend the gala dinner since he was busy finalizing the details for the 31st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and other Related Meetings as well as coordinating the recovery of the rescued Vietnamese nationals who were kidnaped by the terrorist group Abu Sayyaf.
Previously, the President also skipped the APEC gala dinner in Lima, Peru in 2016, claiming that he had a migraine.
The President also missed a photo opportunity with the APEC leaders which included United States President Donald Trump.
