As part of the celebration of his first year of presidency, President Rodrigo Duterte will go to Marawi City, Lanao Del Sur, on June 30, amid the on-going conflict in the said area.
President Duterte insists on visiting the soldiers in Marawi.
The President said that the death of the soldiers is a moral burden on his side.
“Gusto kong pumunta ng Marawi. I will be going there this Friday.” Duterte said. “Tutal may bise-presidente naman, ano naman problema natin? I cannot just sit on my ass diyan sa opisina ko na naghihirap yung tao doon. The many weeks you did not see me, alam ninyo pumupunta ako ng brigade, ng kampo, lahat pinuntahan ko.”
Meanwhile, the president assures police and soldiers that no one will be put to jail as long as they are performing their duties; this covers even the suspects in the killing former Albuera, Leyte, mayor Rolando Espinosa.
Duterte reiterated his promise to pardon members of the police and military who are faced with homicide or murder charges while carrying out their job and the President’s orders.
“There’s a case against the police, allegedly murdering him, and may I now tell you the police and the militarymen here that I will never, never, allow a policeman or a militaryman going to prison for doing his duty. That was my order. Everything that happens now is in accordance with my order to declare Martial Law.” Duterte said.
