President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on Wednesday, January 24 already spoke about the names of the senatorial candidates that he will support for the upcoming 2019 midterm elections.
During a speech before a tricycle drivers’ association event in Pasay City, Duterte said that he would endorse the candidacy of re-electionist Senators Sonny Angara and Cynthia Villar, former Senator and Taguig Rep. Pia Cayetano, and Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos.
Angara is from Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP); while Villar, Cayetano, and Marcos are from the Nacionalista Party (NP).
On the other hand, the chief executive had earlier endorsed the candidacy of former Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go, former Philippine National Police Chief Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, and former political adviser Francis Tolentino.
All three are members of the President’s political party, PDP-Laban.
“I will be supporting those who supported me during the last (elections). Utang na loob ‘yan e,” Duterte said.
Earlier, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that Duterte may be holding back because the campaign period would not start until Feb. 12.
