Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar confirmed that President Rodrigo Duterte plans to revive the Office of the Press Secretary that was abolished by the previous administration in 2010.
The previous Aquino administration had split the Press Secretary office into the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) and the Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office (PCDSPO). In 2017, Duterte demolished the PCDSPO and transferred its functions to the PCOO, which is headed by Communications Secretary Andanar.
In an exclusive interview with dzRH, Andanar revealed that Duterte might issue an Executive Order within this month that will address the possibility of reverting back into the Office of the Press Secretary. He said that the offices of PCOO, Presidential Spokesperson, and PCDSPO will be under the ruling of the Press Secretary office.
Andanar also disclosed that the ‘option’ that Duterte was offering to Presidential spokesman Harry Roque is the position of the Press Secretary.
“Kinausap ko na si Harry [Roque] at sinabihan kong h’wag ka na tumakbo sa pagka-Senador dahil kailangan ka ni Presidente,” Andanar said.
Earlier, Roque hinted the public on his resignation on Friday, October 5 saying that he is no longer capable of being Duterte’s spokesperson.
