President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday lauded United States President Donald Trump for supposedly praising the administration’s war on illegal drugs.
According to President Duterte, he was commended by the US President regarding the Philippines’ stern war on drugs where he expressed his desire to mimic the administration’s campaign.
“Trump, he would like to follow Duterte because they have no problem in the Philippines, he just killed them,” Duterte said at the opening ceremonies of the National Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT) Challenge in Davao City.
“Tama ka talaga Trump.
“Bilib ako sayo. Nagsasabi ka ng totoo. Bakit? Kung lumaban ka hindi kita patayin? Ay naku. Eh yung nga ang gusto ko eh. Mas gusto kong lumaban ka,” Duterte added.
A report from a US news site Axios said that Trump has taken interest in several Asian countries that have rallied strong campaigns against trafficking illegal drugs.
“He often jokes about killing drug dealers…. He’ll say, You know the Chinese and Filipinos don’t have a drug problem. They just kill them,” a senior Trump administration official told Axios.
The US news site also claimed that Trump was inspired by Singapore’s drug policies which practice “zero tolerance” for anyone proven to have been involved in trafficking illegal drugs.
