President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday visited the highly affected region of Biliran after it suffered a massive blow from tropical depression Urduja.
Duterte, after conducting an aerial inspection of the region, met with Biliran Gov. Gerardo Espina Jr. and all the mayors alongside members of his Cabinet.
The President, during the meeting, assured the local officials that the national government will provide aid for the prompt recovery of the damaged infrastructures and ordered his Cabinet officials to hasten the rehabilitation efforts.
During the inspection, Duterte also condemned the latest attack of the New People’s Army after it raised arms against government troops who were distributing relief goods to affected residents.
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque on Monday also confirmed the death of at least 31 people and 49 more missing in areas hit by Urduja.
Of the 31 deaths, 23 were from Biliran, five from Leyte, two from Samar, and another one from Eastern Samar.
