President Rodrigo Duterte is upset with the death of soldiers and cops amid the on-going assault between government troops and the Maute group in Marawi City.
During his speech, the president said that he could not comprehend how soldiers and cops have to die in a war that was initiated by the enemies of the government.
The President extends his sympathies to the families of the 10 soldiers who died during the “friendly fire” from the attack helicopters in the city.
President Duterte said that if the war ends in Marawi City, he will personally lift Martial Law in Mindanao.
Meanwhile, one of the soldiers who died in the Marawi siege was supposed to get married this month.
Corporal Angelo Estores Jr.’s remains have yet to be recovered from Marawi city because of the presence of snipers.
According to Estores’ girlfriend, the fallen soldier was part of the re-enforcement team that was sent to fight the Maute and the Abu Sayyaf Group last Tuesday.
The remains of another solider who was killed by the Maute group in Marawi city were already brought home last May 23.
Sgt. Marlon Baldovino of Kabacan, North Cotabato was part of the group who first encountered the Maute.
According to his wife, she was able to speak to her husband around 12:30pm, a few hours before the battle started.
Sgt. Baldovino even told her that he will be back in time for her birthday.
The family of Corporal Edward Principe is seeking the help of the President because he was the bread winner of the family.
