President Rodrigo Duterte has declared a state of calamity in Ormoc City and Kananga town in Leyte a month after it was racked by a 6.5 magnitude quake.
President Duterte singed Proclamation No. 283 last August 7 to speed up rescue, recovery, relief, and rehabilitation efforts of the government, private sectors, and the several international humanitarian assistance group.
The proclamation also plans to control the price of goods and commodities in affected areas and will allow law enforcers ample amount of time to properly utilize the located funds for the maintenance of peace and order in the area.
The state of calamity declaration will remain in full effect until President Duterte deems necessary.
The 6.5 magnitude earthquake has claimed the life of two individuals and the destruction of several establishments as well as reoccurring power outages in the areas of Leyte, Samar, and Bohol.
