The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has requested the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) to hold an election for the national sports association (NSA) for volleyball.
POC president Abraham Tolentino said that FIVB wants the election to happen before the 2021 World Congress, which will be held online from February 5 to February 7.
“There was already a request from the FIVB some time ago to hold a volleyball election before the FIVB’s general assembly this February,” Tolentino said on Tuesday, January 12.
“The FIVB wanted to recognize a legitimate volleyball NSA before its world congress. It’s urgent,” he added.
POC also said that Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) and Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc. (LVPI) have yet to be recognized by the international governing body for volleyball.
Tolentino stressed that the Philippines cannot send national teams to tournaments sanctioned by the FIVB if the country does not have a legitimate NSA for volleyball.
“Therefore, we will ask all volleyball stakeholders to cooperate and participate in the election,” he said.
