The Philippine National Police (PNP) will be reviving its Oplan Tokhang if ever it is reassigned as the lead agency to counter illegal drug trade in the country.
In an interview with DZRH, PNP Spokesperson Chief Supt. Dionardo Carlos said that Oplan Tokhang has served the agency well in countering drug usage in the community by giving users the chance to personally surrender and turn a new leaf.
According to Supt. Carlos, at least 1.3 million drug suspects have willingly surrendered themselves after the PNP launched the said program.
“Yung Oplan Tokhang ay 1.3 million ang sumuko,” Supt. Carlos said “unfortunately ang na fo-focus po kasi ay yung po na mga namamatay sa ating operation which is 0.2 percent.”
Recently, the President said that he would be forced to return the PNP as the lead agency to fight drugs due to the supposed retuning drug-related crimes in the streets.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency welcomed the President’s statement admitting that its lack of manpower, fund, and equipment has made it difficult for their agency to eradicate illegal drug trade.
