The head of the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) warned all traffic enforcers and motorists passing by Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) that corruption will not be tolerated.
The warning came from PNP-HPG chief Senior Superintendent Antonio Gardiola, Jr. who has been assigned to head a multi-agency traffic management task force by Department of Transportation Sec. Art Tugade.
Gardiola will head the Inter-Agency Council on Traffic (I-ACT), which is composed of the PNP-HPG, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Land Transportation Office (LTO) and Land Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
According to Gardiola, the task force will be better able to address the traffic crisis in the metro because several government agencies are coordinating to find solutions.
Gardiola said his task force will be creating and deploying an inter-agency counter intelligence unit that will monitor traffic enforces along EDSA who are engaged in extortion.
Gardiola added that all traffic enforcers in Metro Manila should work together in minimizing the traffic woes, not just along EDSA but throughout the entire city.
Gardiola stressed that the cooperation of the motorists is also needed if the city’s traffic woes are to be alleviated.
