State universities and colleges in the country need a whopping 13 thousand teachers to be able to reach the ideal ratio of one teacher to 25 students.
During the budget hearing of the Commission on Higher Education and Luzon State Universitites and Colleges, Philippines Association of State Universities and Colleges President Ricardo Rotoras insisted on this matter.
According to Rotoras, there are a lot of SUCs that do not achieve the ideal ratio when it comes to number of teachers to students per class.
Some of these universities include Rizal Technological University which has a ratio of one teacher to 79 students while the Eulogio Aman Rodriquez Institute of Science and Technology has a ratio of one teacher to 85 students.
The ideal ratio of 1:25 comes from the standards of the Department of Budget and Management. (Alyza Joy Narvaez)
