The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology expects Mt. Mayon to release more volume of lava amid its recent activities.

The agency believes that Mt. Mayon should be releasing a certain volume of lava every year.

According to PHIVOLCS Dir. Renato Solidum, Mt. Mayon has rested for about 8 years since the last long eruption of the active volcano in 2009.

Solidum said during the DZRH’s Damdaming Bayan.

Meanwhile, Solidum also said that Mt. Mayon has released about 6 million cubic meters of lava and it is expected to double in the upcoming days.

The PHIVOLCS director also said that there is a swelling inside the active volcano.

“Naka six million na siya so in the few days baka dumoble na iyon. Solidum further explained.

Solidum further revealed that they have discovered that recently Mt. Mayon has been erupting regularly in four to five hours.

Previously, the PHIVOLCS head warned of raising Alert Level 5 over the volcano in Albay if it continues to intensify its activities.
