Subic Bay in Zambales will once again be used as a military base.
This has been confirmed by Defense Usec. Pio Lorenzo Batino. The reopening of the said military base in Subic aims to beefed up the country’s defense against China amid the latter’s aggressive reclamation activities at the West Philippine Sea.
The reopening of the Subic Bay Military base is covered by the 15 year agreement between the AFP and the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority.
Aside from fighter jets, the old military base will also be used as base for two naval frigates.
The Subic Bay military base was closed in 1992 after the Senate cancelled the bases agreement in Washington at the end of the Cold War.
