The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines climbed to 18,638 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 552 more cases — 119 “fresh” or newly validated and 433 reported late — on Monday as the country braced for a less stringent general community quarantine.
The health ministry also said 70 more patients have recovered from the respiratory illness, bringing the total number of recoveries to 3,979 while, the death toll climbed to 960 with three new fatalities.

Among the fresh cases, 94 are from Metro Manila, four from repatriates, one from Region VII, while the remaining 20 are spread out across the country.
Meanwhile, among the late cases, 137 came from Metro Manila, 98 are from Region VII, 16 are repatriates while the remaining 182 patients are spread out across the country.
As of Sunday, there are now 5,184 confirmed cases of COVID-19 abroad.
The DOH earlier told the public to expect more new COVID-19 cases in the following days as the country ramps up testing and case validation capacity.
