PH logs 1,387 new COVID-19 infections, total now exceeds 54K

The Philippines logged on Saturday 1,387 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) new infections — 918 are “fresh” or newly validated and 469 are late — bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 54,222.

In a health bulletin issued, the Department of Health (DOH) said that the total recoveries climbed to 14,037 with a record-high 807 new patients who recuperated from the respiratory illness, while the death toll rose to 1,372 with 12 new fatalities.

Among the fresh cases, 261 are from the National Capital Region, 62 are from Region VII, and 595 are from other areas across the country. Meanwhile, for the late cases, 178 are from the National Capital Region, 15 are from Region VII, 276 are from other areas across the country.

DOH also noted 38,324 active cases or currently ill patients.
