PH Federation of the Deaf files complaint vs. Mocha Uson, Olivar over viral sign language video

Presidential Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson together with her co-host Drew Olivar are about to face a complaint from the Office of the Ombudsman over their controversial video of making fun of sign language.

The Philippine Federation of the Deaf (PFD) on Thursday filed a complaint against Uson and Olivar. The affidavit penned by PFD President Carolyn Dagani stated that the two have killed their dignity.

“Mocha Uson and Drew Olivar were laughing and making fun of us. Together, they stepped all over us and crushed us, killing our dignity. If only they realized what a rich visual language our Filipino sign language is,” Dagani said in the affidavit.

The PFD had earlier filed their complaint to the Commission on Human Rights (CHR).

Uson and Olivar, on the other hand, pleaded the deaf community of the country to accept their apology over the mocking incident and the offense it had caused.

On Thursday, September 13 Uson uploaded a video of Olivar doing a ‘comical’ version of sign language, making sounds as if imitating deaf people. It can also be heard in the said video the laugh of the government official and her statement telling Olivar, “Para kang unggoy dyan.” 

Their recent actions left netizens outraged stating that the video of Uson and Olivar is not funny and that it completely disrespects and degrades those who are speech-impaired.mmunity to accept her apology.
