The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) mourns the passing of Alyana Bautista, 17 years old, on Thursday, July 23, due to complication caused by the 2019 Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).

A graduate from Miriam High School, Bautista played in the PFF Women’s League 2019 for Nomads FC as a defender,” the football organization said in a statement.

The PFF extends its condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Alyana Bautista and request the football community to pray for the eternal repose of her soul,” the federation added.

Philippine Women’s National Team forward Martie Bautista confirmed the passing of her younger sister, who was set to play for the women’s football team of the Ateneo De Manila University.

Martie said that Alyana had Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis further complicated by COVID-19.

Many challenges continued to surface where much of them left us extremely exhausted– especially for my little sister,” the elder Bautista said in a Facebook post.

It is to our despondency to announce that my sister is now finally at peace and with God,” she added.
