Parents of Dengvaxia recipients attempted to attack former Health secretary Janette Garin, who attended a hearing in the House of Representatives regarding the defective anti-dengue vaccine.
After the hearing, Garin was leaving the Batasang Pambansa when waiting parents charged to the former Health secretary.
A mother almost reached Garin after getting pass through the security guards, but was stopped by the security escort of the former DOH head.
The said parent, Teresita Sembrado, was upset since her child is currently sick, and the DOH is allegedly not providing assistance and only advised the victims to take vitamins.
She added that she rushed her child to the hospital but they were refused admitance since they cannot pay and that her child was still allegedly strong.
“Yung anak ko laging nasakit ang tiyan, nilalagnat, nanghihina.” Sembrado during an interview with DZRH. “Ang sabi naman sa amin doon bigyan lang ng vitamins. Kung may lalagnatin, itatakbo sa ospital kaso lang yung ibang ospital tinatanggihan.”
Garin was the health secretary when the Php 3,5 billion worth mass immunization program, which used the anti-dengue vaccine Dengvaxia, last April 2016 was implemented
On January 5, the Public Attorney’s Office also filed a civil case against incumbent and current DOH officials, including Garin, for the death of Anjelika Pestilos, one of the 14 children who died after receiving the controversial vaccine.
