The security measures applied during the recent Papal Visit will be used in the APEC summit this coming November.
According to Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte, authorities continue to prepare for the security measures to be implemented during the APEC summit.
Valte added that delegates from member economies are have been conducting several meetings already.
The first APEC Senior Offficial’s Meeting happening at the Clark Freeport Zone will be on February 6-7.
The theme for the said meeting is “Building A Better World”. DFA Usec. Laura Del Rosario, chair of the 2015 APEC Senior Official’s Meeting will head the said event.
Some of the issues that they will be discussing are free trade area of the Asia-Pacific, Trade Facilitation and Implementation of the TWO Bali package, Anti-Corruption, Counter-Terrorism, Disaster Preparedness among others.
Meanwhile, PCOO Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said that the government is doing everything to assure the 21 Presidents and Prime Ministers attending the APEC summit of their security.
Authorities will have a much easier task with securing the said event because there will be no major crowd control challenge.
During Pope Francis’ visit, one of the major problems that authorities had to take care of was the influx of people.
In line with this, Coloma said that unity, camaraderie and cooperation from the public are important in keeping the peace and order for the said monumental event.
